    made by hand.part I of __ (many, i’m sure)
…
even at a time when i’m doing my best to clear & keep things to a minimum, there are a few things that i love to make exceptions for. one such exception is the bento pictured above, by the very dear satsuki shibuya.
this piece is from satsuki’s first collection, which was released last year under her previous moniker zakka nouveau. it falls under the exceptional category of “beautifully designed, carefully crafted, & adds joy to the quality of life.” the palette of this particular collection featured grays & pinks & clouds & raindrops. the material is sturdy & soft, the stitching so very careful & clean. i felt excitement about the bento as a kid would when choosing her school lunchbox, & i was better about bringing my lunch to work, just so i could carry it from house to car, & car to office, & sometimes office to plaza.
if you haven’t yet gotten to see & experience these home goods (or to meet satsuki, for that matter), you’ll get to soon: she’ll be in a show december 4th in culver city, presenting her third collection, for fall/winter. i can’t wait to see it myself. more details about the show here. in the meanwhile, do have a look around her beautiful shop.
it’s been wonder-filled, following along with satsuki’s work! every bit of it is a genuine reflection of her kind & thoughtful being.
