yesterday on lonny was my first of four posts on wedding stationery, beginning with how to find the inspiration for your paper goods. the creation of images to accompany this particular post was a fun one: i rummaged through every drawer & cabinet, undid all the piles i had amassed on my desk, to forage & gather favorite items, & style them into a narrative. souvenirs saved, postcards & gifts received (thank you, friends!), business cards collected, etc. it’s a bit of a little game. what (or who) do you spy?

how goes your last bit of spring? june gloom is in full swing over here, & there’s no stopping the hot, melty summer that’s surely on its way. a few things to keep you company:

+have you got a hold of june? july will be on us before you know it.
+this weekend, individual medley is calling all knitters to help knit blankets for a good cause.
+justina’s patio sale is tomorrow. dabito & i will be joining her in selling the culmination of our spring cleanings.
+dabito has also (at last) opened an online shop of his prints & most superb vintage finds.
+jessica comingore has debuted the last bit of her beautiful redesign: her website.
+i’ll be writing some posts for lonny magazine! over the next few weeks on their blog, they’ll be featuring wedding planning wisdom that covers the dress, food, & more. above is a little sneak peek of my post on stationery.

my favorite month continues & is on its way too quickly. so many things..! i’m just going to make a list:

+a blush pink may is now available at the shop. june (on white), too!
+the latest by3191 collection was released today. i’ve had my eye on this trusty tank.
+three potato four is having a moving sale.
+bougainvillea & lace are on the press!
+quadron is performing at the getty this saturday. then there’s overdrive.
+roller skating.

& unstoppable birthdays. sending love to kendall & satsuki today. xoxo

yasmine’s series of floral pop-ups continues at individual medley, this time mother’s day themed. visit the shop on saturday to pick up a bouquet (or two) for your mom (&/or yourself)!

the flowers pictured above were from last month’s pop-up. beauties, huh? all that’s needed is to keep them out of direct sunlight & provide a fresh supply of water each day, & they’ll keep you company for a long while. i’ve yet to begin a collection of proper vessels but i do make sure to drink fentimans sodas once in awhile…

may! i am being so very biased but i’ve always loved this month. some of the things i’m looking forward to:

+camping in ojai with this fellow
+printing on pink with this lovely lady
+paper & type cards at individual medley & mcnally jackson
+new collections by 3191
+birthdays — so many may babies!
+the continuing strawberry season
+visiting napa with this soon-to-be-mrs.
+wrapping up bougainvillea & lace

it was five years ago this month when, with only one designed invitation & a couple cards to my name, i had made paper & type official. i was at my computer, waiting for radiohead-at-the-hollywood-bowl tickets to go on sale, when i suddenly decided to register for a domain. my thought process about a company name was swift & practical, & immediately after a positive second opinion from my friend kevin biggers, i staked my claim. paper & type started to feel real.

sketching iterations of a logo came next. my vintage royal typewriter was settled upon as the company mascot from the start, & its icon adorned all my paper creations henceforth. you wouldn’t be able to tell from my flowery room of today, but at paper & type’s beginnings i was madly collecting typewriter-related anythings. a recent gift of a handmade, pocket-sized typewriter (pictured) from my dear friend amy kim* was a very sweet reminder of where i had started & of the friends that have been so supportive along the way & still.

my interests & style have evolved so much over the years, & i want you to know that i appreciate you sticking with me through all of it. there is still so much to learn & do, but at this time it feels as if paper & type is slowly emerging from its awkward years & hopefully becoming the young adult that i wish it to be. thank you so much, friends!

*amy is one talented lady of so many things… painting, lettering, graphics, photography, anything with yarn or fabrics, laughing, etc. she even got me to like napa cabbage. i feel lucky to have this little creation of hers within arm’s reach. i pick it up to squish it often! <3

this painting is by the kind & talented megan johnson. megan moved to echo park, los angeles just about a year ago, & we were thoughtfully introduced by scott goldberg because of our parallel interests in architecture, graphic design, & yes, correspondence. so, naturally, i was excited & moved by this recent painting in particular – the subject, the mood, the detail. these are a pair of hands that surely treasure the tradition of communicating via post.

today you’ll find me on emmadime, where the talented & sweet emma robertson has kindly asked me to be a part of her lovely lady series. with this i feel that a personal, itty bitty circle is wonderfully complete, as it was this series which had brought me to discover her blog in the first place a couple years ago! later on it was through emma that i found kristine arellano, then it was through kristine that i was introduced to emma in person, just before her move. o!
