this painting is by the kind & talented megan johnson. megan moved to echo park, los angeles just about a year ago, & we were thoughtfully introduced by scott goldberg because of our parallel interests in architecture, graphic design, & yes, correspondence. so, naturally, i was excited & moved by this recent painting in particular – the subject, the mood, the detail. these are a pair of hands that surely treasure the tradition of communicating via post.

there’s a little fastidious secretary in me who enjoys filling out paperwork & surveys, even the most inane & endless rebate forms. there’s something about bubbles & checkboxes that are quite satisfying… but i digress. the important news is that the little notes are growing up: here are some new medium ones. & another note: the additional envelopes pictured above are included only for scale, not for purchase.

the duo behind mysterious letters has been a-busyin’ since i last wrote of them. lenka clayton & michael crowe have now reached the households of two more towns (one in switzerland, one in germany) via handwritten letters, & they’re currently writing the french.
what i was MOST excited to discover was that there is now an opportunity to receive your own personal mysterious letter (or to direct one elsewhere to someone so deserving). you may also visit the shop for other previously written letters. as evidenced above, the pieces are equal parts thoughtful, amusing, & marvelous. collect them all, maybe?
