i’ve been hibernating in architecture lately, & missing you here.
but come spring….!
i’m happy to share that PAPER & TYPE stationery may now be found in a lovely shop called myrtle, located in echo park, los angeles! the very kind whitney has curated a collection of goods by designers (hetterson, kyyote, fieldguided..) that i’ve only had a chance to eye from afar until now. she’s also designed & outfitted the shop in a most delicate & darling way (i could live in it). P&T will be among good company over by that vintage typewriter.
do visit:
2213 sunset boulevard, with a grand opening this saturday, december 10, 5–10pm.

photograph by elizabeth daniels, via myrtle.
translucent scenes from justina’s jungalow, where i’m currently headquartered/house-sitting while she’s away absorbing istanbul. it’s been a retreat of sorts, with a cat who likes to get cozy (best during the chilly mornings of late), plus every corner filled with plant-life & bits of inspiration in the form of artwork, paint color, postcards, & patterned textiles.
my favorite is getting to see the light through these varied window hangings…

good morning!

i thought beyoncé utterly killed it with love on top. & then i was introduced to ella’s cover of mack the knife.
happy saturday to you.

i’ll be sharing new cards with you soon. i did a new sort of setup for the photoshoot this time around. the above is a peek, & it features some lovely birthday goodies amidst a few vintage finds (clockwise from left):
1. white rose blooms, from rachel at the manzanita house
2. jacqueline kennedy onassis, found at an estate sale in hancock park
3. photograph of me & my mom in front of ba’s house, stolen from home (guilty)
4. pretty pot of succulents, from my kind roommates
5. lovely little bowl, from sushmita’s visit to china
6. bouquet of everything, from tara at silver lake farms (picked & arranged by rachel)
7. a field guide to pacific states wild flowers, purchased from little byrd vintage
8. vintage drawer, taken from a throw-away desk at a curb in brentwood
…
i’m ever-grateful & happy to have been able to begin my birthday week by spending mother’s day back home with my mom, & then return to los angeles to share precious hours throughout the week with dearest friends: a surprise visit, a dinner adventure, an old-fashioned sleepover followed by scoops & a lazy day about silver lake, an evening of dancing, a calm morning at silver lake farms, an afternoon nap (those should always fit in somewhere), and a delicious surprise dinner at local.
thanks, all, for the good times, words & wishes. <3
remember to pause.

it was so nice last weekend, spending sunday afternoon at tannaz’s lovely home in los feliz. what a treat, getting to make use of the kitchen that provided so perfect of a backdrop in this lookbook (not to mention the honor of feasting on a busy in the kitchen meal by satsuki, herself!). we made a tart or two, & enjoyed each other’s company & conversation as the shadows grew long & our dinner-making went into full swing.
this very big & quite content >sigh< is brought to you by tannaz & suki.
…
an ever-thoughtful post (plus photos of our actual eats) may be found at zakka nouveau (be sure to peek at her featured recipe from our dinner as well). miss tannaz, too, expands more upon the loveliness of quality time & friends here.

one of the things i enjoy about every other friday is getting to pickup my share of fresh fruits & vegetables. this past season has introduced me to cooking & eating so many new foods i hadn’t grown up with — kale, butternut squash, radishes, parsnips, celeriac — & has helped enforce healthier habits that continue to surprise my mother (i was/am picky).
today’s bounty includes:
•baby heirloom leeks (only because it’s fun to say aloud)
•butter lettuce
•carrots
•chard
•kale
•spinach
•broccoli
•beets
•radishes
•lemons
•scallions
•cilantro
•pea & radish microgreens
•2 lbs (!) satsuma mandarins (i’ve started consuming satsumas as if they were candy)
this particular csa is coordinated by tara of silver lake farms, along with the immense help of rachel &, up until recently, bruce! they recently put together the first of many potlucks to come. it’s a wondrous (& delicious) community to be a part of. one that only begets sharing.
in the words of rachel (her top phrase of 2010, as noted by kb): “we have so much food!”

the other evening i enjoyed every bit of wondering about at brand bookshop, a used bookstore in glendale (just a skip away from the guava cheese at porto’s bakery). there inside works a wonderfully sharp old fellow whose cracks kept me chuckling throughout my visit. loved the section titled ‘books on books’, but what i really got lost in were the books on plants & flowers. there was an old old field guide (older than this one) that also addressed the flowers by colors, but it followed with a special chapter on the ‘unpleasantly scented flowers’. was happy to come away with the title ‘exotic plants’ & a guidebook on leaves; wasn’t too happy about being tricked (by my own hand, no one else’s) into opening a book on termites (the cover was misleadingly stately).
excited to share more photos with you soon.
